Moonchild Danes is a "home raised" small hobby breeding kennel.Although I use the term kennel , our Danes are not ! They are the biggest couch potatoes you'll find. We breed Quality not Quantity,basing our breeding program on the Standard as set forth by The Great Dane Club of America & the AKC. Health, Temperment and Conformation are all equally sought after.We believe in the "total package!"
Just a little story you may find interesting about,how I found the name Moonchild for my kennel name........................Finding a Kennel name came fairly easy after I began realizing a few things. Being a "Gemini (Moonchild)" myself and having a fondness for "Moons", it all began to fall into place somewhat on its own. I also favor the Movie the "Never Ending Story" , which is actually how and where the Kennel name "Moonchild" came from. In the movie , Bastian has to rename the Childlike Empress in order to save Fantasia. As Fantasia is crumbling into the "Nothing"...Bastian crys out "Moonchild" and the Empress has a new name and Fantasia is saved. Early on I used several names from the Movie ; Falcor , Xayide , Moonie , Artax & Morla so far.
Another intersesting fact , Many of the Danes I have owned over the years have been "Geminis (Moonchildren)" too ! Freaky , huh ?
So....as I see it "Moonchild" was meant to be !
Many years ago.....actually in 1974 when I got my first Great Dane and before graduating High School in 1977. During this time , I had worked for Bobbie Fowler , a Professional Handler of Hound Group "Fame"! Although I knew as a young boy I was interested in working with dogs, I was not sure what aspect it would be in , but I knew my Life would revolve around dogs. My choice was Great Danes !
Since I had no Family in the "business" ! It was very hard to get started. So I began by exhibiting my own Danes to make my way. As a Breeder / Owner / Handler of Danes I began "polishing" my Handling skills to the point where other Dane Owners sought my Handling. What a thrill it was the first time I was asked to show other Danes other than my Own. This has also led me to handle dogs of other Breeds too .
Have Been affiliated with The Great Dane Club of Pennsylvania , Inc. have held positions on the Board of Directors,Matchshow Chairperson,Trophy Chrp, President...etc .etc.etc !!!!
All my Great Danes are AKC Registered.
